The recycling symbol, familiar to packaging designers, features three arrows looped into a triangle to signify recyclability. Many people are unaware that the numbers inside the triangle represent different materials.
This arrow symbol indicates that the product or its packaging is made from renewable materials, which are beneficial for the environment and Earth protection. The symbols differ across countries, with Japan and South Korea using square shapes, and Europe and America using triangle shapes, but all with arrowed circular design.
01.PET-1
PET #1, commonly used for beverage bottles and mineral water bottles, has a heat resistance of 70°C. It is prone to deformation when filled with hot liquids or heated, releasing harmful substances. Some people like to reuse mineral water bottles for beverages or tea, which is very unhealthy.
02.HDPE-2
HDPE #2, commonly used for bottles of edible oil, shower gel, and dishwashing liquid, feels like touching wax. After use, it can be reused for other items, but it must be cleaned thoroughly. It is easy for bacteria to grow if not cleaned before storing items.
03.PVC-3
PVC#3, because of its low price, is widely used in daily life in places such as water pipes, raincoats, and more. However, it is important to note that it has poor heat resistance, and toxic substances may leach out when exposed to high temperatures and oils, so it is rarely used in food applications. If used, please avoid heating.
04.LDPE-4
LDPE #4, such as plastic wrap and plastic bags, will melt when exposed to temperatures above 110°C, and toxic substances may leach out of the wrap along with fats, so do not put plastic wrap in the oven.
05.PP-5
PP#5, commonly used in soy milk bottles, yogurt bottles, fruit juice bottles, etc., can withstand high temperatures up to 167°C, and is the only plastic box that can be put into the microwave. It can be repeatedly used after cleaning.
06.PS-6
PS #6, mainly used to manufacture building materials, toys, stationery, bowl of instant noodles, disposable tableware, can only hold warm beverages, not for storing piping hot food, nor strong acids (such as orange juice) or strong alkaline substances, especially should not be placed in the microwave.
07.OTHER-7
Other#7, often used only in baby bottles, space cups, etc., is a controversial plastic material. Theoretically, as long as it is fully converted during the production process, this type of plastic product will not release harmful substances. However, if it is not fully converted, it will release harmful substances when heated. Therefore, please do not heat it and avoid direct exposure to sunlight when using.
